Fatal Crash

A 37 year old woman from Battersea and her six year old son have died in a crash on Battersea Road.

Brenda Trautrimas and her son Owen died at the scene of the crash about 1 kilometre north of Sunbury Road in Inverary around 5:30 yesterday afternoon.  Frontenac OPP say the collision involved a van travelling north on Battersea Road and a southbound pickup truck.  A young child in the van was taken to hospital with serious – life threatening injuries.  The driver of the pickup was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed while the OPP investigated.

Drought Continues

There’s no significant rainfall in the forecast for the next week as the drought continues in the Kingston area.  The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority calls it a moderate drought and says the rainfall on Monday did nothing to help.

It says the Kingston area has received about 15mm of rain in July…the average is 70.

The drought means waterways are lower than normal potentially exposing hazards that aren’t normally a problem.

It continues to ask people to preserve water whenever possible.

Man Jumped

Kingston Police are looking for a group of people who jumped a young man…beat him up and stole his backpack.  It happened around 2:30 yesterday morning in the area of Division and Brock Streets.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated in hospital.

Drug Problem

A Kingston woman with an obvious problem has been arrested for the third time this year.

The 40 year old woman has been charged with prescription fraud after a prescription for a powerful painkiller was faxed to the Reddendale Pharmacy.  It turned out to be phony and the woman was arrested on Tuesday.

The same woman was charged with assault and theft in January and was charged with prescription fraud and breach of an undertaking in March.

Pokemon – Military Breach

The Canadian Armed Forces is warning Pokemon Go players…in and out of uniform…to play on military property.  A spokesperson says military police have reported “Pokemon Go occurrences” at three bases and the military is urging players to refrain from trying to enter defence establishments without authorization “for the purposes of searching for Pokemon.”

The game hasn’t been banned, but military personnel and civilians are being discouraged from playing near defence establishments.
