School Buses

All school transportation was been cancelled again today.

Road conditions are reported to be hazardous in areas outside of Kingston.

Triboard Student Transportation cancelled buses for the Limestone District Board, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District Board and Hasting Prince Edward School Board.

Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario cancelled all school transportation for the Upper Canada District School Board and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario.

O’Leary

Celebrity investor Kevin O’Leary has announced he is running for the leadership of the Conservative Part of Canada.

He made the announcement on CTV News this morning.

O’Leary claims the Conservative Party of Canada needs a candidate who can beat Justin Trudeau and “bring back jobs to this country.”

Biker HQ

Kingston Police are hoping they are not welcome in the neighbourhood.

The Outlaws biker gang has set up a clubhouse in a commercial building across from the Kingston Centre.

It’s called a prospective chapter on the Outlaws Motorcycle Club Canadian website.

In the events and announcements section it says…we would like to welcome Trenton as a new chapter with Kingston as a prospective chapter.

Kingston hasn’t had a formal biker gang clubhouse for at least ten years.

Arson – Assault

A 39 year old Kingston man is facing charges after his domestic partner was beaten with a metal bar and their home was set on fire.  Kingston police say the incident began last Friday afternoon when the man became angry over a text message his partner had received.  They say he beat the woman with a steel bar, threatened her and a roommate with a knife…destroyed the woman’s computer and set their home on fire.

The emergency response team found the man barricaded in a second floor bedroom of the home on Rideau Street.

The man faces six charges including aggravated assault and arson endangering life.

Feihe – China Delegation

Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson says a second company from China will be moving to Kingston.

Paterson and a delegation from Kingston has just returned from a trade mission to China.  They were invited by Feihe International.  The company is building a $250 million baby formula factory in Kingston.

Paterson says details about the second company won’t be released until later this year….built it is affiliated with the baby formula maker.

MetalCraft Update

MetalCraft Marine in Kingston is currently working on a multimillion-dollar contract to build and deliver three fireboats for the city of Istanbul, Turkey.

The three aluminum fireboats are being built in Kingston and the company’s facilities in Cape Vincent, New York.

MetalCraft is also building boats for Imperial Oil, the Canadian Navy the U.S. navy.

History File

From Tony’s today in History File…a sweet deal at the tax payer’s expense and income tax as a temporary measure only.

On this day in 1917, the Canadian government introduced income tax.  It was supposed to be a temporary wartime measure.

On this day in 1985, Ontario Premier William Davis announced a sports stadium with a retractable roof would be built in downtown Toronto at a cost of $150 million. SkyDome wound up costing $500 million….and the sweet deal at the tax payers expense?  Rogers Communications bought it for just $25 million in 2005 and it is now known as Rogers Centre.
