Hockey Fans – Stress

With the NHL season getting underway last night…

A new study from researchers at the Montreal Heart Institute has found the excitement of watching your favourite hockey team could cause a heart attack or stroke.

The researchers monitored the heart rate of 10 people who attended Montreal Canadiens games and 10 people who watched the games at home.

They found those watching on TV had an average heart rate increase of 75%…those attending the live game had a spike of 110 percent.

The cardiologist says the stress-induced heart-rate response could have the potential to trigger a heart attack or stroke in fans with underlying cardiovascular diseases.
