Greg Zaun Gone

Former Blue Jays catcher and Sportsnet analyst Gregg Zaun has been fire by Sportsnet for “inappropriate behaviour and comments.”

Rogers Media President Rick Brace issued a statement last night saying…we received complaints from multiple female employees at Sportsnet regarding inappropriate behaviour and comments by Gregg Zaun in the workplace. After investigating the matter, we decided to terminate his contract, effective immediately.

There has been no comment from Zaun.

Rogers is the parent company of this radio station.

Drug Bust – All in the Family

A drug bust in the Seeley’s Bay area has resulted in charges against four members of the same family and two other people.

The OPP executed a search warrant on November 16th and seized a variety of drugs including Cocaine, Heroin, Cannabis Resin, Marijuana and prescription medication.

45 year old William Mattice, 43 year old Laurie Mattice, 21 year old Marissa Mattice and 18 year old Ryan Mattice have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.  William Mattice also faces a charge of conspiracy to commit and indictable offence.

18 year old Isaac Ubdegrove of Rideau Lakes Township was also charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and a 41 year old man from Ottawa faces charges of possession and conspiracy to commit and indictable offence.

Conference – Nursing

Registered practical nurses represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees from Kingston, Ottawa, Cornwall and Smiths Falls are meeting at Kingston City Hall today.

The conference will discuss new developments in Ontario, nursing team collaboration and violence in the hospital workplace.

The Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario says about 25 per cent of nurses practicing in Ontario are Registered Practical Nurses.

Budget Approved

Kingston city council is set to approve a property tax increase of 2.5% for 2018 when it meets on December 19th.

Council met this week to discuss the budget and received presentations from city departments.

It has given preliminary approval to the operating budget of $378 million…capital budget of $58 million and the Utilities operating budget of $95 million.

United Way – Campaign Total

The United Way of KFL&A is celebrating another successful campaign.

The campaign raised a total of $3,504,001…three thousand more than the goal.

On top of that…tours of Kingston Penitentiary raised $800,000 for the United Ways youth homelessness programs.

Parking Ban

Kingston’s bylaw that makes it illegal to park on the street overnight during the winter kicks in today.

Parking is prohibited on city streets from 1 am to 7am and from midnight to 7am in the area around Kingston General Hospital.

The fine is up to $30 and vehicles face being towed if there’s a snowstorm and streets need to be ploughed.

The ban is in place until the end of March.
