It’s back! Lumberjack 2017 returns to the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum from September 22 – 24.

Take part in the amped up outdoor camping experience for adults and hone your skills in the great outdoors by participating in workshops led by experts in their fields. With a variety of challenges over the course of the weekend designed to help you become an expert in all things outdoors!

Wrap up the weekend by showcasing what you’ve learned to family and friends in the Ultimate Skills Challenge.

This cumulative challenge is complete with hatchet throwing, fire-starting, and log rolling! All meals, camping, and workshop instruction included with registration. This authentic experience fills up fast, so register early to secure your spot!

Some additional details on the workshops:

This year’s workshops include Bush Craft & Survival Skills, Coal Burned Bowls, Orienteering, and Campfire Cooking Classes.  Take advantage of optional drop-in workshops and create your own paracord bracelet or learn how to throw a hatchet.

–       4 workshops (some of these descriptions were taken from the past Lumberjack events)

o   Coal bowls

  • Engage in one of the oldest ways of making bowls and utensils! Burn your own useable bowl from only a piece of wood and a hot coal!

o   Bushcraft Skills

  • Not every fire is built equally. Some fires cook your food, some fires smoke your meat, some fires save your life, while badly built fires endanger your life.

o   Cooking Class

  • Campfire cooking goes beyond the traditional hot dog on a stick in this course. Prepare your meal under the guidance of a skilled chef and learn some useful (campfire) cooking techniques!

o   Orienteering Scavenger Hunt

  • The days are short, the forest deep and the weather subzero; You sure better know how to find your way back to camp (especially after a drink or two). Join in Map and Compass navigation training that goes beyond what you learned in boy scouts and girl guides. After all, what happens when your smart phone dies?!  A 1.5 hour workshop with an extended field component in the form of a scavenger hunt!
