Liver-Transplant

A three-year-old girl from Kingston has received a liver transplant two months after her twin sister underwent the same surgery to combat a potentially fatal genetic disorder.
A post on the Wagner family’s Facebook page says Binh received her “gift” from an anonymous donor.  Binh’s twin sister Phuoc returned home from hospital last month after getting part of her father’s liver.

Kingston – DNA Arrest
    
A standoff on Briarwood Drive in Kingston’s west end on Saturday ended with the arrest of a man wanted in Calgary for a sexual assault 20 years ago.
Police in Calgary say a DNA match led to the arrest in Kingston.
A man surrendered to police after they surrounded a home on Briarwood Saturday afternoon.
They were able to remove a woman and after contacting the man he gave up.
Police say they seized multiple replica handguns from the home.
53 year old Wayne Howard Bernard faces a number of charges in Calgary including sexual assault with a weapon, kidnapping and robbery stemming from an attack on a woman in 1995.

Traffic Disruption

Access to the 401 eastbound on Montreal Street in Kingston is being shut down until late this summer.
Starting today…the ramp from Montreal Street to the eastbound 401 is scheduled to be closed for construction until August 10th.


Equal Pay Day

The Equal Pay Coalition says it is time for the Ontario government to close the pay gap between men and women.
It’s Equal Pay Day in Ontario today and a series of events is being held across the province.
The coalition says women in the province earn an average of 30% less than men and it

Parliament Returns

Kingston and the Islands MP Ted Hsu and other MP’s return to Ottawa today as Parliament sprints toward the finish line ahead of a fall election.  The House of Commons resumes sitting today following a two-week break.
Finance Minister Joe Oliver will unveil the conservative government’s budget tomorrow.
