Kingston Sheepdog Trials
Today kicks off the annual Sheepdog Trials in Kingston!
The event held at Grass Creek Park attracts over 7,000 spectators throughout the three-day festival featuring Visitors and handlers from all over the globe.
If you are not familiar with the sport of trialing, there are many other side attractions throughout the event including, Craft & Artisans’ Fair, Sheep Shearing, Kingston Police K-9 Demonstrations, The Agility Connection, Bowmanville Zoo Animal Encounters, Rideau River DockDogs, and NEW THIS YEAR the Canine Adventure Lure Course and Pet Health and Wellness Center.

Kingston Hotel – Ontario Fire Code Infractions
A local hotel has been charged with a number of serious fire code violations.
Kingston Fire and Rescue conducted an inspection at First Canada Inns on First Canada Avenue on June 5, following a complaint filed from an out-of-town guest about a non-functioning smoke alarm.
In total Thirty infractions of the Ontario Fire Code were made, including 37% of the smoke alarms in guest suites failing to operate as they were broken, disconnected or missing.
The owners face three charges for failing to maintain smoke alarms, failing to install a smoke alarm and failing to test smoke alarms annually and after every change in tenancy.
Kingston Fire and Rescue also issued an inspection order requiring the remaining 27 violations to be corrected. To date, most of the violations have been corrected.
Blaze Puts Man in Critical Condition
A man is in critical condition after being rescued from a fire on Portsmouth Avenue Wednesday evening.
When Kingston Fire and Rescue crews arrived on the scene, they saw smoke and flames coming from a sixth-floor apartment.
While one team extinguished the fire another pulled an unconscious male tenant from the apartment.
Firefighters & Paramedics performed CPR on the man who was then transferred to KGH where he is currently being treated in intensive care.
The fire is not considered suspicious at this time, and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating the cause. Damage is estimated at $100,000.

City Of Kingston Sanitary Sewers Program
An annual city program to clean and inspect sanitary sewers kicks off next week.
Starting Monday and lasting until October, workers will be flushing out sewer lines under city property with
This years work is to include an area bordered roughly by Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard, Barrie and Concession streets.
The results of the inspection will determine our sewers structural quality and if it needs repair or replacement.
Residents in areas where the flushing and inspection work is to take place are to receive a notice three days before.
To avoid odours, spillage or noise from the work, homeowners are asked to keep their toilet lids closed and pour about two litres of water into basement drains.

The Agnes Etherington Arts Centre – Grant
The Agnes Etherington Arts Centre received a $75,000 Grant from the City of Kingston Arts Fund to fund its upcoming programs.
The grant will help the centre fund its operating costs, including arts outreach programs, staff salaries and gallery events open to the community.
The arts centre also received an anonymous donation of $4,720 through the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area.
Funding will support a new slate of exhibitions this fall as well as the new ArtZone program, an after-school drop-in program for teenagers interested in art.

Kingston Police Force Programs Receive Provincial Funding
More than $139, 000 in Provincial Funding was awarded to Two programs led by the Kingston Police Force yesterday morning.
Receiving almost $80,000 is the community risk watch project to establish a group designed to bring together police and agencies that help people struggling with mental health, addictions and homelessness.
The second program to receive funding was The Partnered At-risk Youth Strategy which gained more than $59,000 to build on work it has done to build relationships between the police and young people. The youth strategy partners with agencies in the city, including Y2K, Youth Diversion, Traditional Excellence and the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston and Area.
The police force was the only applicant to receive funding for two separate programs.
