Wind and Rain

The storm that brought an end to the heat wave flooded Kingston roads and knocked out power.

Utilities Kingston says trees or tree branches came down and knocked down power lines in five locations yesterday afternoon.

Power was off in the central part of the city…including St. Lawrence College.

Bath Road near the Frontenac Mall, Gardiners Road at the underpass and Place D’Armes in downtown Kingston were a few of the spots that were under about half a metre of water.

Power was also knocked out in areas north of Kingston but Hydro One had restored the power in those areas by early this morning.

Drone – Collins Bay

It turns out a drone was used to drop a package into the prison courtyard at Collins Bay Insitution earlier this month.  The Whig Standard reports sources say the drop happened on the evening of August 5th and the package was quickly seized by correctional staff.

The Correctional Service made no mention of the drone in a news release that stated a package was found containing a cellphone and 180 grams of tobacco.

The Whig says the package also contained narcotics.

A lockdown was ordered after the package was seized and a search of the institution lasted for almost a week before the lockdown ended.

Domestic Assault Arrest

A 33 year old Kingston man is facing charges after a woman was assaulted in front of her teenage daughter.

Kingston Police say it began around 11:30 Monday night after a dispute over a missing cellphone.  Police say the man assaulted the woman…left…but climbed a ladder to a window to get back into her home.

He then took the woman’s vehicle.

The man was arrested by Lansdowne OPP after they stopped the vehicle on the 401.

He’s facing multiple charges.

Economic Development

Economic development is back in the spotlight today in Kingston.

The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce is hosting a session with Ontario’s minister of Economic Development.  Brad Duguid will spend an hour and a half discussing the provinces economic initiatives and answering questions.

The session gets underway at one this afternoon at the Innovation Park offices of the Chamber of Commerce.
