Student Parties

Kingston Police say it was another crazy busy night in the Queen’s student ghetto.

Police had to respond to at least 11 noise complaints in the student ghetto area between 11:30 last night and 1:30 this morning.  Officers on duty in other areas of the city had to be called in to handle the large groups of students in the streets and at house parties.

Police were also concerned about large groups of students swimming in the dark next to the water treatment plant on King Street.

They say the rough water on Lake Ontario – rocky shoreline and booze could have been a recipe for disaster and they repeatedly cleared groups of hundreds of students from the waterfront.

Police laid charges for open liquor, drinking in public, underage drinking and one person was arrested for public intoxication.

Kingston First

The five business people who are calling themselves Kingston First are calling for a forensic audit of the Kingston Economic Development Corporation’s $2.5 million budget.

One of the five is Bernie Robinson.  Robinson is a former chair of the Economic Development Corporation’s Board.  He faced the same criticism and under his reign – travel expenses and the list of employees making over a hundred thousand a year were not public.

Now Robinson and Kingston First say the public deserves to know that information.

High School

The Limestone District School board will hear some key details about Kingston’s new $36 million high school tonight.  The details include where the new school will be built on the QECVI site.

The location of the school has become a topic of a community drive to have the city investigate a partnership with the school board to have it located on property at the Memorial Centre.

That would require both the school board and city council agreeing to open up the topic – but so far nobody on city council or the school board has come forward to support the idea.
