More Money Please

More money please will be the call when Kingston City Council meets on Tuesday night.

A staff report on the contract for the next Big Dig on Princess Street is recommending council approve a bid from Len Corcoran Excavating of $12.9 million.  That is almost $3 million dollars higher than the original estimate and a million dollars more than the only other bid from Taggart Construction.  The staff report says Taggart’s bid didn’t meet all of the criteria.

Turtle fencing is going to cost $55,000 more than expected.

The city originally agreed to spend 30 thousand… 30 thousand was raised in the community and the project got a provincial grant.

Staff is recommending taking the extra 55 thousand from reserves for the fencing along Princess Street from Parkway to John Counter Boulevard. The lowest bid was $142,000.
