Sexual Assault – Arrest

A man has been arrested on charges of sexual assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement of a woman on Wolfe Island between December 8th and December 11th.

The OPP says the woman is in hospital in stable condition.

The OPP issued an arrest warrant for 39 year old Michael Ross Burnett of no fixed address and he was arrested by Kingston Police yesterday.  He was arrested around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Union and College Streets after someone recognized him from a post on social media.

Burnett has been charged with Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Forcible Confinement.

Attempted Murder – Sentence

A 45 year old man from Kingston will be serving a five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to charges in a Napanee courtroom last week.

Barry Evans was sentenced on 12 charges, including attempted murder after pleading guilty at a pre-trial hearing to assaulting two people and setting a trailer on fire at a trailer park in Millhaven on May 30th.

Fire – Highway 15

Fire has destroyed a garage on Highway 15 in Kingston.

Kingston Fire and Rescue says the garage in the 5000 block of Highway 15 was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 11 Saturday night.

Nobody was injured but the building and its contents were destroyed.

Damage is estimated at $30,000.

Sunday night Fire

Kingston Fire and Rescue says unattended cooking was responsible for a fire in the kitchen at Jina Sushi last night.

Firefighters were called to 409 Johnson Street after a tenant living above the restaurant smelled smoke.  Fire officials say that’s fortunate because there was no smoke alarm and the fire could have become far more serious.

Damage was limited to some kitchen items.

Operation Red Nose

Operation Red Nose had a busy weekend providing rides to people and their vehicles in Kingston.

54 volunteers provided 63 rides on Friday night.  65 volunteers handled 86 rides on Saturday night.  People who took advantage of the service made 43 hundred dollars in donations that will go to Kingston charities.

So far this season…Kingston’s Operation Red Nose has provided 351 rides and raised over $9,000 in donations.

It will be providing rides this weekend…take a break for Christmas and then wrap things up with the last night of service on New Year’s Eve.

Real Estate

The latest Housing Market Report from Re/Max predicts a continuing increase in the price of homes in the Kingston real estate market.The report says…the average residential price for 2015 was $299,000…a 4% increase over 2014.  It predicts the average price of a home in Kingston will increase by 2% in 2016. People can also seek the help of nyc real estate agent to buy a property.

High School Hockey

Dozens of young hockey hopefuls are hitting the ice in Kingston today and tomorrow in a high school hockey prospects tournament.  Organizers says about 60 teams are taking part.  Over 600 players will be involved in the games at the Invista Centre and Cataraqui Arena. Games begin at 7:30 in the morning and run until 6 p.m.  It’s aimed at showing off high school players skills to college and junior hockey scouts and coaches.
