Baby’s Death – SIDS

It’s heartbreaking to read the messages on a crowd funding website where a page has been set up to raise money for the funeral of a 10 week old Kingston girl.

Charlie May Lina passed away Monday night.

Her cousin, Miranda Armstrong, says the baby girl passed away from sudden infant death syndrome.

Armstrong says the family is on social assistance and she has started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money for the baby’s funeral.

Tree Canopy – Browns Bay

A brand new tourist attraction is coming to the Thousand Islands region thanks to the St. Lawrence Parks Commission.

It has hired Treetop Trekking of Quebec to create a tree canopy eco adventure park called SKYWOOD at the Brown’s Bay Campground on the 1000 Islands Parkway.

The tree top adventure park will be open this summer and is expected to offer things like zip lining and suspension bridges.

The Quebec company operates five similar parks in Ontario and five in Quebec.

St. Lawrence Parks Commission CEO and Manager, Darren Dalgleish says SKYWOOD will help draw new tourism activity to the region.

Family Day Weekend

A demonstration has been planned for family day in Kingston.

An organization called the Ontario Coalition for Accountability will hold a rally and candle light vigil at Springer Market Square from 3-6 p.m.

The group says over 100 children pass away in the “care” of their local Children’s Aid Societies every year and there is no accountability or oversight in the system.

Gas Prices

Drivers in Kingston continue to pay more than the average for gasoline.

The price checking website Gas Buddy dot com says the average price across Canada is 83 cents a litre.

It’s showing the price in Kingston is around 87 cents a litre.

The price of oil dropped to the lowest it has been in almost 13 years yesterday….it ended the day at $26.21 U-S a barrel.

Snoop Dogg – Tweed

The Smiths Falls based marijuana producer…Tweed…is partnering with Snoop Dogg.

Tweed is getting exclusive rights to use certain content and brands owned by the rapper’s company for an undisclosed amount in cash and stock.

It is a three year deal that can be renewed for another two years at the end of the term.

Snoop Dog is in Toronto for the NBA all-star game.

Uber-Poll

Survey says….most Canadians do not support a ban on the Uber ride sharing service…but two thirds of people say they want it regulated like the taxi industry.

The Angus Reid online poll found 70 per cent were open to Uber operating in their communities.

Only one in six say they’d support banning Uber.
