Baby Assault

Kingston Police have charged the father of a three-month-old baby after it was left with serious injuries.

The child is in stable condition in hospital but requires further medical treatment.

Police were called on Wednesday after hospital staff treated the baby for what were deemed to be non-accidental multiple bone fractures.

The mother of the child had left the boy in the care of his father while she went out for a few hours on Tuesday.

A 35-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault.

Domestic Assault – Guns

A man from Napanee is facing a dozen charges in connection with a domestic disturbance and the seizure of a cache of guns.  Napanee OPP say a woman fled her home following a domestic incident at 7am on Monday and her boyfriend was arrested several hours later.

A search warrant was executed at a Napanee residence on Tuesday and police seized a handgun, six rifles, a shotgun, assorted rounds of ammunition and 17-hundred dollars in cash.  A 33-year-old Napanee man faces charges, including assault, overcoming resistance by attempting to choke, uttering death threats and six firearms charges.

Fentanyl Bust

A drug bust has resulted in the first seizure of a quantity of the powerful painkiller Fentanyl by Kingston Police.  A news release says officers have seized individual patches in the past but this is the first time they’ve charged someone with trafficking in larger quantities.

Police stopped a vehicle on Bur Brook Road on Wednesday afternoon and charged a 47 year old Kingston woman with two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Cops – Hockey – Donation

Cops playing hockey has paid off with a donation of over $30,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Kingston and Area.  Kingston Police hosted the annual International Police Hockey Tournament at the end of February.  It brought 100 teams and over 14 hundred hockey players to Kingston.

Yesterday, Police Chief Gilles Larochelle and organizers of the tournament made the official donation of $30,379 to the Boys and Girls Club.

Silent Auction – HMCS Cataraqui

The public is being encouraged to bid on items in a silent auction to raise money to commemorate VC 921 Squadron.

HMCS Cataraqui is hosting the fund raising event from 1 to 5 tomorrow afternoon in the combined messes at 24 Navy Way.

Funds will support a proposal for a commemorative bade to honour VC 921 …one of five naval reserve squadrons that operated as a tender to HMCS Cataraqui from 1953 to 1959.

Coast Guard Station Opens

The Canadian Coast Guard Station in Kingston will be opening today.

All of the Coast Guard station on the St. Lawrence, Great Lakes and Georgian Bay close during the winter months.

While the station in Kingston will be opening today…the Coast Guard is warning people that despite recent mild temperatures the water remains very cold at this time of year.

SLC Open House

St. Lawrence College will be a busy place tomorrow.

The college is hosting its annual open house for prospective students and their parents.

Faculty will be on hand with program information and demonstrations and people can get campus tours.

Career Services will also be running Career Coach Workshops to help students discover career opportunities.

The Open House runs from 9am to 3pm.
