Fatal Crash

The 42 year old driver of a vehicle involved in a police chase and fatal crash in Napanee has been charged with first degree murder.

Napanee OPP have also charged Andrew Slapkauskas of Belleville with attempted murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police causing death.

The Special Investigations Unit is working on determining if there was any wrongdoing on the part of police in the fatal collision.

The vehicle they were chasing slammed into a car on Highway 2 and killed the driver…88 year old Florence Wyatt-Morris of Napanee.

Child Luring

Durham Regional Police have charged a 37 year old man from Kingston with trying to meet a teenager for sex in the Greater Toronto Area.  Police the man chatted online with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl.  He arranged to meet her in Newcastle on Wednesday of last week and was arrested there.

The man has been charged with child luring for sexual interference and exposing himself to a person under 16.

Ice Fishing

A day of ice fishing on Wolfe Lake in Westport in mid-December has resulted in a one thousand, 800 dollar fine.  Tim Donnelly of Westport pleaded guilty to fishing without a license and fishing with more than the permitted number of lines.  The fish Donnelly caught that day were donated to charity and he had to forfeit his fishing gear.

Doug Ford – Ontario PC’s

Doug Ford can now focus all his attention on leading his Progressive Conservative troops into battle against the Kathleen Wynne Liberals in Ontario’s June 7th election.  Christine Elliott is no longer contesting Ford’s narrow victory on Saturday in the P-C leadership race.   She initially disputed the results, claiming “serious irregularities” in the vote.  But after meeting with Ford on Sunday Elliott said she was “confident in the results” and planned to run in the upcoming election.

Barrie Street – Intersection Closed

A reminder that the intersection of Barrie and Princess Streets will be closed starting today as work continues on the Big Dig.

The city has announced reconstruction work on Princess Street is on schedule and that means the busy intersection will be closed to traffic – but – Barrie Street will remain open north and south of Princess Street.

Specialty Wellness

The YMCA of Kingston will be able to enhance Specialty Wellness programs thanks to a pledge of $45 thousand from Empire Life.

The funding will allow the Y to develop new programming and buy new equipment to support programs like Y’s Hearts and new program for those living with cancer.

The Y says it will help improve Health and Wellness Studio services to best serve new and existing participants.
