Third Crossing Announcement

The city has announced they’ll be introducing the team who will plan the design and construction of the Third Crossing bridge next Wednesday.

The team was one of three shortlisted backers to submit a proposal on the project.

Seven international teams applied for the job.

 

Reconciliation Day

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his government is consulting with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis groups to choose an appropriate date and to decide how a holiday dedicated to reconciliation should be framed.

Trudeau says the day will remember the impact of residential schools and reflect on a path toward reconciliation.

If Parliament did approve a statutory holiday, it would only apply to federally-regulated workplaces.

Provinces and territories would have to amend their existing labour codes to give most other workers an additional day off

 

Kingston Man Arrested in Ottawa

Ottawa Police have charged a 29 year old Kingston man with multiple weapons charges, after investigating the sound of gunshots.

They say police received several reports of gunshots in the Greenboro area on July 5th.

Responding officers found the suspect’s vehicle, and shell casings nearby.

No injuries were reported.

 

Fredericton Funerals

Hundreds of mourners lined up in Fredericton yesterday for an emotional public visitation for the two city police constables killed in the line of duty a week ago today.

Constables Robb Costello and Sara Burns were shot at an apartment complex on Fredericton’s north side in a shooting that also claimed the lives of civilians Bobbie Lee Wright and Donnie Robichaud.

Thousands of police officers and first responders from across the country are expected to attend a regimental funeral for the two officers tomorrow.

The suspect in the shooting is being charged with four counts of first-degree murder.

 

Aretha Franklin

The music industry continues to mourn the death of Aretha Franklin, who passed away at the age of 76 yesterday morning.

The “Queen of Soul”  won 18 Grammy awards, was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom — America’s highest civilian honour.

Countless fans took to social media to give their condolences, including former US President Barack Obama, who said Franklin helped “define the American experience”

 

Joyceville Death

Correctional Service Canada is reporting a 25 year old inmate has died at Joyceville Institution.

Witton Luu was confirmed dead on Wednesday, officials are now investigating.

He was serving a 3 year, nine month sentence for drug trafficking.
