Crash – 401 WB

 

The 401 westbound in the Brockville area was re-opened to traffic early this morning after two transport trucks collided last night.  The westbound lanes were closed for about four hours following the collision. Things were a little sticky – the cleanup involved hundreds of jars of syrup.

 

Boys – Dangerous Driving Spree

 

Two Kingston boys are facing charges after a wild driving spree in Kingston’s north end on Friday night.  Kingston Police say they started getting complaints around 8:00 p.m. Friday about a stolen van spinning its tires and driving across lawns.  Police deployed what’s called a stop stick on Weller Avenue but the driver veered around it and smashed into a police cruiser and parked car…then took off onto the 401.

The van was found at Middle Road and Highway 2.

A 14 year old and a 16 year old have been charged with dangerous driving, possession of stolen property and obstructing Police. The 16 year old is also charged with breach of probation and the 14 year old has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

 

9/11

 

Kingston Fire and Rescue will observe a minute of silence at 9:59 a.m. to honour victims of the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Centre.  Staff will gather at Station 4 on Brock Street and Station 7 on Woodbine Road to honour those who died on the 17th Anniversary of the attacks.  The south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed at 9:59 a.m.

 

Car Show – Fundraising

 

The Limestone City Car Club will be giving a donations of $12,000 to the Kingston Melanoma Cancer Clinic after their 6th annual car show in Lake Ontario Park.

About 2,000 people enjoyed the Classic Car Show on September 1st.

The 12,000 dollar donation is being made in memory of Melonie Beatty who died of the disease seven years ago at age 35.

The shows over the past six years have raised more than $50,000 and a room at the Melanoma Cancer Clinic will be dedicated in her memory this week.

 

Accessibility Awards

 

The City of Kingston is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Celebrating Accessibility Awards

If you know a person or an organization making Kingston more accessible, you can nominate them in various categories including education, employment, recreation, and customer service.

Nominations are due by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

 

Walmart – Grocery Pickup

 

Walmart has joined the online grocery shopping business in Kingston.

It has announced you can now order groceries online and pick them up at its store on Midland Avenue.  The retail giant says for same day service you have to order by 11 in the morning for pickup after 4 in the afternoon.

Loblaws introduced a similar service in July of 2015.
