Vigil – Pittsburgh Synagogue

 

A candlelight vigil is being held today in Kingston for the victims of the shooting on Saturday morning at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Beth Israel Synagogue and the Kingston Jewish Council have organized the vigil for 5pm today in Confederation Park.

People of all faiths are being encouraged to participate in the vigil.  Leaders of other faiths in Kingston will be taking part.

Funerals for the 11 victims of the shooting begin today, with more planned through Friday.

 

Missing Girl

 

Kingston Police say a 15 year old girl reported missing yesterday has been found.

Police had issued a request for help in locating the girl after she failed to return to her home on the bus yesterday afternoon.  Police say the girl was located following their request for help in finding her.

 

Domestic Dispute – Stabbing

 

A woman from Napanee has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon after a violent domestic dispute.  Napanee OPP say they were called about the stabbing in Napanee just after 11 p.m. on Friday.  A 23 year old woman was arrested on Sunday.  No other information has been released.

 

OPP – Drug Warning

 

The detachment commander of the Napanee OPP is encouraging parents, grandparents, caregivers and friends to discuss the dangers of taking unknown substances and medications.

The detachment issued a news release yesterday quoting Inspector Scott Semple as saying this is a community problem and these types of discussion have to take place to ensure the safety of our youth.

The message comes following a number of drug overdoses at Napanee District Secondary School believed to be connected to counterfeit Xanax that may be contain Fentanyl.

 

Steer Clear of Drugs

 

15 hundred grade six students from 36 locals schools will be learning about healthy, drug and alcohol free lifestyle choices this week.  The annual Steer Clear of Drugs Program is taking place in the Thompson Drill Hall at CFB Kingston this week.

 

Kingston Hosting 2020 Brier

 

Kingston has been chosen to host the Brier in 2020.

The official announcement is being made on Thursday morning at the Leon’s Centre.

The Royal Kingston and Cataraqui curling clubs and other clubs in the area have already been informed of the decision.

The 2020 Canadian men’s curling championship will be held from February 29th to March 8th of 2020 at the Leon’s Centre.
