NDSS – Youth Charged

 

The OPP’s investigation into drug overdoses at Napanee District Secondary School has led to the arrest of a 16 year old from Loyalist Township.

The OPP has seized prescription Xanax tablets and the youth has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking in relation to an incident that occurred at the high school on October 19th. The OPP executed a search warrant at his residence in Loyalist Township on Tuesday and the 16 year faces additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prohibited weapon…a knife.

 

Impaired by Drug

 

A 42 year old man from Kingston has been charged with being in the care or control of a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug.  The man was arrested after reports he was yelling and acting strangely outside his vehicle at a gas station in Odessa during the noon hour on Wednesday.

Police say he failed a field sobriety test and a sample of bodily fluid was taken at the Loyalist OPP detachment for analysis to determine what drug he was impaired by.  The man has also been charged with possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis in a public place.  Police seized 747 grams of dried cannabis from his vehicle.

 

Parking Lot Fight

 

A 48 year old woman from Kingston and her 18 year old daughter are facing charges after a fistfight with another woman in the RioCan Centre parking lot.

Kingston Police say the mother and daughter saw the other woman coming out of a store on Gardiners Road around noon on Wednesday.  They thought she was responsible for a collision that damaged their vehicle in the past.  Police say the mother beat the victim severely and the daughter joined in once the victim was on the ground.  Witnesses intervened and police arrested the pair.  The 48 year old woman and her 18 year old daughter have been charged with assault.

 

Tim Hortons Brier – Kingston

 

The Kingston Economic Development Corporation says the Tim Hortons Brier has the potential to bring 130 thousand spectators to Kingston and generate up to 15 million dollars in economic spinoff.

The official announcement of Kingston winning the bid for the men’s curling championship took place yesterday at the Leon’s Centre.  The Brier will be held there from February 29th to March 8th of 2020.

The arena hosted the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Kingston last hosted the Brier in the 1950’s.

 

Tim Hortons – Smile Cookies

 

The Tim Hortons annual Smile Cookie campaign in Kingston raised $108,391 for the Kingston Health Sciences Neonatal Intensive Care Unit…a record amount for the cookie campaign.

The money will be used to help purchase life-saving equipment for the unit that treats babies at Kingston General Hospital.

 

Time Change Weekend

 

It’s the time change weekend…clocks fall back an hour on Saturday night.

Kingston Fire and Rescue says it is also a good time to check the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

 

United Way Update

 

The United Way campaign in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington has just over a million dollars to go to reach its goal of $3,456,000.  The campaign wraps up on November 29th and there are a couple of popular fund raising events taking place this weekend.

Blu Martini in downtown Kingston is hosting the GovFest Battle of the Bands tonight.  Proceeds support the United Way and Ryan’s Well Foundation.

The Queen’s Science Formal takes place on Saturday night in Grant Hall and the public can view the Casino Royale theme from noon until 3pm tomorrow for a donation to the United Way.

 

Frontenacs – Hockey Fights Cancer

 

The Kingston Frontenacs take to the ice tonight in special plaid jerseys for their Hockey Fights Cancer Game against the Peterborough Petes.
