Snow

It is a snow day for students throughout the region.  Tri-Board Student Transportation and Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario both cancelled all school transportation today due to the weather and road conditions.

 

Kingston got about 10 centimetres of snow overnight.

 

Police were urging drivers to remember winter driving skills.

Kingston Police investigated a dozen collision last night in the snow and the OPP says it responded to reports of numerous crashes including a head on collision on Highway 15 at Chaffey’s Lock Road and a snowplow that slid off the 401 into a ditch at Mallorytown.

 

Child Pornography

The Kingston Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit has made its third arrest of the month.

They started investigating this one in June and executed a search warrant at a residence in Kingston on Wednesday.  Multiple digital devices and data storage media were seized and a 31 year old man was arrested. He has been charged with making child pornography available, possessing it and accessing it on the Internet.

 

Nursing Home Employee – Theft

A 26 year old woman employed at a nursing home in Kingston is facing theft charges after wedding rings from the nursing home were sold to a pawn shop for 700 dollars.

Kingston Police say they started an investigation last month after receiving a complaint about a missing ring at the nursing home.  It revealed a total of eight stolen rings had been pawned since August.

The woman was arrested on Wednesday and has been charged with three counts of theft, possession of stolen property, fraud, and breach of probation.

 

Teens Charged – Arson

Six teenagers have been charged with arson after a school bus was set on fire at Fairfield Elementary School in Amherstview on March 24th.  The bus was destroyed and the total cost of the damage to the bus and pavement was estimated at more than $120,000.  The six youths from Loyalist Township are all facing charges of arson and mischief over $5,000.

 

Santa Parade

Santa Claus is coming to Kingston.

The 15th annual Downtown Kingston Santa Parade takes place tomorrow.

It starts on Princess Street at the Kingston Centre at 5pm.

Kingston Transit is offering free rides all day tomorrow and 15 minute express routes will operate from 3 to 8pm.

Following the parade the city’s Christmas tree will be lit in Springer Market Square.

 

Peacemakers

The YMCA of Kingston has been honouring Local Peace Makers this week and today it presented YMCA Peace Medals to two Kingstonians.

Dr. Soni Pansham and Sister Pauline Lally were recognized during a special breakfast this morning at the Four Points by Sheraton.

 

Stanley Cup – Kingston

The Stanley Cup is coming to Kingston today.

It will be on view for the 75th anniversary of the Original Hockey Hall of Fame at the Invista Centre from 3:30 to 5:30 this afternoon.

It will also be at a luncheon at Fort Frontenac with three Kingston Stanley Cup Champions…Doug Gilmour, Ken Linseman and Rick Smith.  Each of them scored the Stanley Cup winner for their teams.

The luncheon is to honour two Kingston hockey greats who died in the First World War…Scotty Davidson and George Richardson.

The Stanley Cup and Memorial Cup will be at the Kingston Frontenacs game against Mississauga tonight where former Kingston Canadians star Ken Linseman will be honoured.

He’ll sign autographs at the end of the first period.
