401 in Napanee

The 401 eastbound was down to one lane in the Napanee area this morning.

Crews were working to clear up a crash that took place last night.  A transport truck caught fire.  The highway was closed but one lane was open this morning.  There was no word from the OPP on injuries in the crash.

 

Napanee – Arson

A 43 year-old Napanee man is facing a charge of arson following a fire in Napanee late Saturday night.

Napanee OPP were called to an apartment on Robert Street just after 11:00 p.m. Saturday and discovered the apartment was on fire.  Napanee Fire and Rescue was able to quickly put out the fire.  Damage is estimated to be more than 10 thousand dollars.

Police and the Fire Marshalls office determined the fire was deliberately set and the 43 year old man was charged with arson.

 

Canada Post – Delays

Canada Post says a backlog of six million packages means it can’t guarantee parcels will be delivered in time for Christmas.

It says the backlog was created by rotating strikes.

But the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says poor management by Canada Post is responsible for the massive pileup of parcels that may not arrive before Christmas.

 

Kingston Clippers – Junior Gaels

Queen’s Athletics and Recreation is partnering with the Kingston Clippers Soccer Club to help inspire young people and encourage them to attend Queen’s.

The Clippers house league and competitive league uniforms will be rebranded with Junior Gaels starting in the New Year.

The largest soccer tournament in Eastern Ontario called the Ambassador Cup will be renamed…the Gaels Cup.

The partnership also includes mentoring by Queen’s athletes.

The University says it is the first of a number of partnerships to help promote Queen’s to young athletes.

 

City – Online Login

The City of Kingston is working with a software company on developing a single login for all of the city’s online services.  Right now you have to use different usernames and passwords for each City service application.  The new system will allow you to use a single login.

The city says the new system will be developed in 2019.

 

City – Special Events Feedback

The City of Kingston is asking for public input on a review of its Special Events Policy.

It wants to know your feelings about which parks and facilities are suitable for holding special events.

City staff is looking at the policy after city council passed a motion to review use of parks.

You can give feedback to the city through its website, register to take part in focus group discussions that will be held January 2019, and sign up to receive project updates.

Paramedics – Toy Drive

The Tree of Hope campaign is getting a big boost thanks to Frontenac Paramedics.

They were at the Toys R Us outlet on Saturday collecting for their annual Toy Drive.

People stuffed an ambulance with toys and made cash donations.

The toys and money are going to the Family and Children’s Services Tree of Hope campaign.

 

Kingston Winner – Food Basics

A Kingston woman and her family will be going on a trip to Prince Edward Island thanks to the Food Basics “Wish Fulfillment” campaign.

Angela Jean was chosen as the winner and received her gift of a round-trip for her family of four to Prince Edward Island to be with family over the holidays.

Jean received the prize last Thursday.
