Collins Bay Contraband

The Correctional Service of Canada is reporting the seizure of contraband in the medium security unit of Collins Bay Institution.

Just after noon on Friday, staff discovered multiple items including tobacco, cannabis, and crack-cocaine.

They estimate the value of the items at $85,000.

In a statement, the institution says visits to the unit have been suspended until the search is completed.

The police have been notified and the institution is investigating.

 

Hydro Rate Changes

A reminder that starting tomorrow, Utilities Kingston is making small changes to the rates on electricity and natural gas.

They issued a statement to customers explaining the new rates that were approved by the Ontario Energy Board.

According to the Boards Findings, there will be a monthly decrease of 2 cents for a residential customer consuming 750 kilowatt hours.

For Natural Gas, customers will notice the removal of the provincial cap and trade charge, following the scrapping of the program by the Ontario Progressive Conservatives.

 

Kinsmen Winners

The winners of the 2018 Kinsmen Dream Home draw have been released, a congratulations to Deborah Stacey of Kingston who walked away with the title prize of a dream home.

The waterfront home was built by Home Valley Builders in the “Applewood Lane” subdivision, and is valued at $780,000.

A number of cash prizes ranging from $1000 to $10,000 were also awarded.

Happy New Years Eve!

There are many options to celebrate in Kingston, with many venues holding special events.

The annual K-Town Countdown will be taking place at the Leon’s Centre, with fun and games for the whole family.

It will be followed by a fireworks display at Confederation Basin to ring in 2019.

As for the forecast, 2019 could be off to a wet start, 15-25mm of rain is expected overnight tonight to ring in the New Year.
