City Council – Pot Shops

City Council will decide if Kingston will be home to Cannabis retails outlets when it meets tonight.  A report from city staff is recommending approval of pot shops in Kingston.

75 per cent of people who took the city’s online survey strongly agree with supporting cannabis stores in the city.

The city will be in line for $300,000 from the province for policing and public health if it approves cannabis retail outlets.

The province is now accepting applications for the first 25 licenses for retail stores in Ontario.

There is no guarantee Kingston will get one of the five licenses designated for Eastern Ontario because the decision will be made in lottery system.  Only six cities qualify in Eastern Ontario…Kingston, Belleville, Ottawa, Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes and Barrie.
