Impairment Charges

A 24 year old man is facing impairment charges, after an incident early Wednesday morning.

Around 1:30am, police responded to reports of a domestic dispute at a mid-town residence.

The accused had allegedly been arguing with his girlfriend, striking his own head violently against the building and his car.

Police arrived and stopped the accused as he was about to exit the parking lot in his vehicle.

He was taken into custody after showing signs of being impaired by alcohol.


Amber Alert

Police say an 11-year-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert late last night has been found dead at a home in Brampton.

Peel regional police issued the alert at 11 p-m, several hours after 41-year-old Roopesh Rajkumar failed to return his daughter, Riya, to her mother.

Riya was found dead around midnight and her father was arrested by the OPP a short time later near Orillia.


MacLeod Allegations

Ontario Social Services Minister Lisa MacLeod has issued an apology following accusations that she pressured behaviour analysts into supporting the province’s new autism program.

MacLeod writes on Twitter that she apologizes if her comments made anyone feel threatened or uncomfortable.

The Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis says MacLeod and her staff  pressured their organization to publicly support the proposed changes.

They allege that the minister told the association it would be a long four years if they did not support the changes, which they say will leave many children without adequate levels of therapy.


Kingston Police Press Conference

Kingston Police have called a news conference for 11am, to make an announcement about  “historic homicide cases”

Police are revealing very few details about the announcement, simply saying they will address a “major development” in more than one case.

Reports say the announcement could be connected to the heavy police presence on Middle Road and Cottage Farms Road yesterday afternoon.


Tommy’s reopen

Good news for downtown residents, Tommy’s Diner is officially re-open.

The popular restaurant closed late last year to undergo renovations, following an indoor flood in August.

A smiling Brian Lipsin of Brian’s Record Option next door says in a Facebook video that his shop’s renovations are almost complete, and they will likely re-open in 2-3 weeks.



Snow Blower Fight

A 52 year old man is facing charges following an afternoon argument involving a snowblower.

Around 2:30 on Wednesday, the accused allegedly began yelling obscenities at his neighbour for shovelling snow onto his car.

The accused then began pushing his snow blower towards the victim, blowing snow in his direction, and forcing the victim to place a shovel in between himself and the machine to avoid injury.

The accused ultimately relented and put the snow blower away before Kingston Police arrived

Police responded to the scene and took the accused into custody.


Leeds US charges

A Leeds man is facing multiple charges for allegedly having an online relationship with a 12 year old girl in Washington State.

The OPP were contacted in December about a Canadian man who had reportedly been having sexually explicit conversations with the girl.

21 year old Robert Bottineau of Leeds County was charged on Wednesday, and is expected to appear in court in Brockville on March 15th.


Improvements in The Hub

The City is looking for input on how to improve the intersection of Princess and Division.

On March 6th and 7th, the city will host two public workshops to explore ideas, like art installations.

The workshops will be led by the Crazy Dames, a consulting trio who specialize in urban planning, placemaking and cultural engagement and work with people to find creative ways to design public spaces.
