New Specialists – KHSC

Kingston is getting more than two dozen new medical specialists following a successful recruitment campaign by the Kingston Health Science Centre.  Chief of Staff, Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick, says the new doctors will help reduce wait times throughout.  Fitzpatrick says the amalgamation of Hotel Dieu and Kingston General Hospitals and the Kingston areas lifestyle has helped with recruitment.

And Kingston will finally have more than one dermatologist.

Two of the new doctors are a wife and husband team of dermatologists from Germany.

Another recruitment program will begin in the near future.

Fentanyl Trafficking

Kingston Police say a handgun and a pound and a half of the potentially deadly drug fentanyl has been seized in a joint investigation into the trafficking of fentanyl in Kingston.

The investigation determined fentanyl was being supplied to cities along the highway 401 corridor by a source originating in the Durham Region.

Kingston Police worked with Napanee OPP and Durham Regional Police on the investigation that started late last year.  A 29 year old man from Bowmanville and a 27 year old woman from Oshawa face charges after being arrested on Tuesday.

SIU – Napanee OPP Cleared

The Special Investigations Unit says Napanee O-P-P officers will not face charges in the death of an 88-year-old woman whose vehicle was struck by an S-U-V being chased by police in Napanee last March.   Ontario’s police watchdog says there was no connection between the actions of the officers chasing the S-U-V and the woman’s death.

Threats – Baby – Domestic

Another case of domestic violence in Kingston.

A 24 year old Kingston man has been charged with assaulting a pregnant woman last summer and with threatening to harm the couple’s baby because it was crying so often.  He was arrested on Wednesday and charged with assault and uttering threats.

Busted – Cyclists

Kingston Police say they found a container with crystal meth in it when they stopped two cyclists on Highway 38 north of the 401 at 7:20 on Wednesday morning.

Police say they stopped the pair because they were acting suspiciously.

A 34 year old Kingston man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of break-in instruments.

Human Trafficking Day

Today is Ontario’s second annual Human Trafficking Day.

Kingston Police, the OPP, and other municipal police forces in the province are taking the day to educate the public on what human trafficking is, the risk factors, warning signs, and how to get help.

A news release from Kingston Police says bringing the crime out of the shadows can lead to prevention and early intervention, and can help people understand the exploitation that takes place when people are trafficked for sex or labour.

This is a link to the Kingston Police news release explaining the details of the awareness day.

Note:  it says tomorrow as it was posted on February 21, 2019.
