Utilities Kingston – Pumping Station

An equipment failure at the Utilities Kingston River Street Pumping Station flooded the station with sewage yesterday.  There were also sewage overflows into the Cataraqui River and Lake Ontario at five locations.

Repairs were made by seven last night and the station is now back to normal operation.

The equipment failure yesterday prompted a request for people in Central Kingston to limit their use of water.

The city also closed splash pads and public washrooms in the central part of the city.

Those facilities will be open today and people were advised this morning that they can use water as usual today.

 

Kingston Minister – Child Luring

A minister at a Kingston Church has been charged by Peel Regional Police with five counts of luring a child to commit sexual assault.

65 year old Timothy Milley of Deseronto was arrested this week after an investigation that began late last March.

Police claim the minister at Cataraqui Church used the online screen name “redrider” to communicate with someone he believed to be under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose.

 

Child Pornography Charges

A Kingston man has been charged in a child pornography investigation.

Kingston Police executed a search warrant at a downtown Kingston residence on Wednesday and seized hard drives and a computer.

49 year old Andrew Quesnel has been charged with two counts of possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography and making it available to others.

 

St. Lawrence – Strat Plan

St. Lawrence College has updated its strategic plan with a new plan for the next five years called…SLC Five.

College President Glen Vollebregt says it builds on the previous strategic plan of Students First, Teamwork. Innovation and Integrity by adding a new value…Belonging.

Vollebregt says St. Lawrence believes it has a responsibility to help student celebrate diversity and foster an environment where everyone feels welcome to participate without discrimination.

 

Volunteers – Day of Sharing

More than 300 volunteers are doing some light construction, maintenance and gardening projects during the United Way Day of Caring in Kingston.

The volunteers will be visiting 30 local agencies.

The United Way says it gives the volunteers a chance to learn about the local impact of their donations through a hands on experience.

 

Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour

There will be hundreds of cyclists on the roads north of Kingston this weekend.

The Ottawa Bicycle Club is holding its annual Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour.

Cyclists choose from four routes between Ottawa and Kingston.

The event usually attracts 1,800 cyclists.

H’art Centre – Open House

And…H’art Centre in Kingston is hosting an end of season art exhibition and open house on Saturday and Sunday.  The non-profit charitable organization that helps people with disabilities will be opening the doors of its centre at 237 Wellington Street from 2 to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Funds raised through the purchase of art will be used to support H’art’s next major production.

Glenora Ferry – Reduced Service

If you’re heading to Prince Edward County this weekend…the Glenora Ferry is running on a reduced schedule due to the high water level.  It is operating every half hour and that could create lengthy delays for the ferry with increased traffic on the weekend.

An entrepreneur from Frontenac County is featured in the Ontario government’s 2018-19 Local Food Report.

The report profiles Seed to Sausage founder Mike McKenzie.
