Kingston’s History

From Tony’s Today in History file…Members of Parliament gather in the Limestone City for Canada’s first parliament.  Kingston had been chosen as the first capital of Canada and on this day…June 13th, 1841…the first Canadian parliament opened in Kingston.

Kingston’s run as the capital was a short one…It was moved to Montreal three years later.

Contrary to popular belief – Kingston city hall was not built to house the parliament.  It was built to be the city hall and for commercial enterprises.
