Kingston Man Arrested in Toronto

A 23 year old Kingston man is facing several charges including theft and uttering threats in relation to an incident in a Toronto condo.

The accused allegedly followed a woman into a condo building, threatening her, attacking her, and stealing her purse.

The incident happened on June 1st, and the accused was arrested late last week.

He is expected to appear in court in Toronto on July 24

 

Joyceville Search

Staff at Joyceville Institution have completed an exceptional search, finding a number of unauthorized items.

The Correctional Service of Canada is not yet reporting the specific items or amount that was seized, only confirming that weapons were found.

The lockdown was put in place on July 5th, visits to the institution have now resumed.

 

Flu Season

The Province is already preparing for this year’s flu season, with health minister Christine Elliott warning that officials expect this season to be a bad one.

The province is looking to Australia, which has reported an early flu season with unusually high activity for this time of year.

The severity is reported as low, but hospitalizations are three times what’s normal for this time.

A spokeswoman says Ontario has already ordered 300-thousand more doses of high-dose flu vaccines than last year, bringing the total order to 1.2 million doses

 

Algonquin Park Missing Girls FOUND

The two teenaged girls who went missing in Algonquin Provincial Park have been found.

Provincial police are giving them credit for staying put once they realized they were lost.

The 16-year-olds got lost after accidentally leaving the trail where they were hiking, and police say they did the right thing by not trying to find their way back.

Spokesman Bill Dickson says the girls rationed what little food and water they had with them for the three days they were lost.

The Kitchener teens were reunited with their families yesterday after more than 100 people spent the weekend searching for them

 

Moon Landing Anniversary

Apollo 11’s astronauts are returning to the exact spot they launched to the moon 50 years ago.

NASA has invited Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins to Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A today, to celebrate the anniversary of the moon landing.

They will mark the precise moment — 9:32 a.m. on July 16, 1969 — that their Saturn V rocket departed on an eight-day voyage for humanity’s first moon landing.

Mission commander Neil Armstrong, who took the first lunar footsteps, died in 2012.
