Amber Alert – Cancelled

If you woke up to an amber alert early today…it was cancelled shortly after being issued.

Police in Brantford say the two year old girl they were looking for was found and is safe.

 

Princess Street United Church

Home Base Housing is buying Princess Street United Church.

Home Base Housing says it is still working out details of conditions for the sale and will release its plans for the building once the sale goes through.

The Church says it won’t be closing.

Princess Street United says it will continue to hold worship as a congregation at the same location and will release details soon.

But Martello Enrichment School has decided it will close.

The school has sent a letter to parents saying it will close on August 31st.

It has operated in the church for 32 years.

 

401 Closed

The OPP says two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries following a collision on the eastbound 401 that closed both lanes of the highway near Shannonville Wednesday afternoon.

The crash took place around 4pm and closed the 401 between Highway 37 and Shannonville Road.

The OPP posted a message on Twitter saying the highway was re-opened to traffic at 4:45 in the afternoon and charges are pending against one of the drivers.

 

Lock it or Lose It

Kingston Police say there has been an above average surge in thefts from vehicles being reported.  Police say the theft have not been in one specific area and have been reported throughout the city.

Police issued a news release yesterday reminding people to Lock it or Lose it.

Police say you should remove valuables from your vehicle, never leave anything in sight and make sure to lock it or you may just lose your valuables to a thief.

 

Bridge Project

Construction is about to resume on the bridge over the CN Rail tracks on John Counter Boulevard.  The contractor and city staff will be updating the construction plan during a public session at the Ambassador Hotel starting at 6:30 tonight.  The session is aimed at businesses in the area but is also open to the general public.

The preliminary work has been completed and the final phase of the project including the actual construction of the bridge is set to begin.  The work is expected to be completed in 2021.

 

Heritage Grants

The City of Kingston is handing out 10 grants of $50,000 for heritage restoration projects.

The grant recipients will be recognized this afternoon during the city’s Heritage Resource Centre Lecture series.

The lecture following the presentation of the grant certificates is on the revival of the use of linseed oil paint…a completely organic and environmentally friendly product.

The event is free and starts at 2pm in Memorial Hall at Kingston city hall.
