Highway Closure

The 401 Eastbound was closed between Montreal Street and Highway 15 this morning following a truck fire.

The OPP says a truck hit a concrete barrier in the construction zone and caught fire around 2:30 this morning.

Nobody was injured.

There was a large fuel spill and police did not know when the highway would re-open.

 

MVC – School Bus

Highway 2 in Loyalist Township was closed until late yesterday afternoon after a school bus hit a utility pole.

The crash at 9:30 yesterday morning resulted in a charge of making an unsafe move for the driver.

No students were on the bus and nobody was injured.

The highway was closed to allow Hydro One to make repairs.

 

Domestic Assault

Kingston Police have charged a 25-year-old man following an investigation into domestic violence.

Police say the man tried to shove a woman down the second-floor stairs of their north end home on Tuesday in an argument about her inviting a friend over.

Police say the victim had been assaulted on three other occasions…including one incident when she was pregnant and miscarried shortly after the assault.

The 25-year-old has been charged with four counts of assault.

 

Basketeers

While most people prefer personalized photo mugs to surprise their loved ones.The new Kingston chapter of Basketeers is asking you to create a gift basket for a woman trying to make a new life after leaving an abusive situation.  The idea is to fill a laundry basket with useful household and personal items for a woman leaving a shelter to live on her own.

The Kingston chapter of Basketeers is looking for individuals or groups to donate baskets.

The inaugural Drop-Off Day event will take place at the INVISTA CENTRE on Saturday, November 23rd, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Arrest – Meth Addict

More problems with meth addicts in Kingston.

Kingston Police have charged a 29-year-old man with stealing items from a north end store.  Police say the man refused to pay for the merchandise he left the store with around 3:45 on Tuesday afternoon.  They identified him from surveillance video but weren’t able to locate him until they were called to a fight in the Compton Street area.  They found the man on Conacher Drive and say he appeared to be under the influence of crystal methamphetamine. The man has been charged with theft.

 

Fireboat – Kuwait

A fireboat produced by MetalCraft Marine has been delivered to the Kuwait Fire Service and an online publication says it is loaded with innovations.  The FireStorm 50-footer is the fourth fireboat the Kingston company has built for the fire service in Kuwait.

It features new engines and waterjets that can propel the boat to a top speed of almost 45 knots.  It also has sophisticated electronics including a night vision camera, remote drone control and internet access. The fireboat built in Kingston is featured on the website Marinelog.com.

Pot Store – Award

One of Kingston’s pot stores has won an award.

The Fire and Flower Brock Street Cannabis Store in Kingston won a 5-star award for Best Retail Interior from the USA and Americas Property Awards….the most prestigious and widely recognized award program for residential and commercial properties. The awards ceremony took place earlier this month in Toronto.

The company says it worked to honour the history of the heritage building in downtown Kingston, while offering a modern, bright and comfortable experience for customers.

 

Whyman – World Crier Championship

Kingston’s Town crier is on a mission to reclaim his title as best in the world.

Chris Whyman will be in Australia until October 23rd to compete in the World Invitational Town Crier Tournament.  He left yesterday.

His son Curtis has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for the trip.  He’s trying to raise $3,000 to help Kingston’s Town Crier with expenses including travel, hotel and food.
