KEDCO Review

Now that Kingston City Council has unanimously approved a review of the Kingston Economic Development Corporation…Mayor Bryan Paterson is moving full steam ahead.

Paterson says he’s work with an independent consultant who is an expert in the field to set up public consultations.

The city will also post an online forum to get further public feedback.

The Mayor says he’s setting up the review committee.

Nominations for the four citizen appointments on that committee open Saturday and the application form will be available on the city’s website.

Murder Update

Kingston Police investigators hope some new information may trigger the tips they need to track down two men wanted for the murder of Mark Seymour.  Seymour was known as Mark Bramley to family and friends.

Bramley was stabbed to death on the night of September 28th.

Two men were seen running from the area.

Detectives are now saying they believe one or both of the men were injured during the stabbing.

Investigators believe the two men suffered cuts and abrasions.

They’re asking anyone who has information about the case to contact Detective Adam McMullen or Crime Stoppers.

Boat Missing

A $200,000 boat is missing from the Confederation Basin Marina in Kingston.

Kingston Police say the 41-foot Searay Cruiser, named “Arda T” disappeared from its slip at the Marina in mid-September.

Police are hoping someone will remember seeing someone leaving the marina in the boat and can help in the investigation.

United Way

Workplace campaigns are the foundation of the United Ways successful fund raising campaigns in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington.

People pull together to raise money for the cause and that’s happening today with an employee barbecue at Novelis, a bake sale at the Parole Board office, a pancake breakfast at KPMG and an apple festival at the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care office.

The United Way campaign runs until November 30th and has raised 30% of its $3.4 million dollar goal.

Seat Belt Survey

A survey of seatbelt use in Kingston has found almost 6% of people in Kingston don’t buckle up.

Kingston: Partners for a Safe Community held two checkpoints yesterday.

They observed 3,098 drivers and passengers passing through two busy intersections and counted 180 people not wearing seatbelts.

Project coordinator Jamie Burns says that translates into 5.8% of the population and says those people are risking their lives by not buckling up.
