Golf Course – Assault

The Kingston Police emergency response unit swarmed the area around the Westbrook Golf Course after an employee of the course was assaulted.

Witnesses told police they saw a man holding what’s believed to be a knife around 7:30 yesterday morning.

Police believe the same man assaulted the golf course employee but there was no weapon involved in the assault.  The golf course employee received a minor injury.

Police and the canine unit searched the area…but…so far…nobody has been arrested.

Kingston Pen Tours

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission says tours of Kingston Penitentiary are expected to generate more than $6 million in economic benefits for the Kingston area.

It announced tickets for the will go on sale starting at 3pm on Monday.  Tickets will only be available online.

The tours begin on Thursday, June 16th.

General admission tickets will be sold for $25 per person plus taxes & fees. Tuesdays will be reserved for local people who will be able to buy tickets for $20.

The Parks Commission says it has hired 30 students to act as tour guides.  They will be supported by retired Correctional Service employees.

East End Plaza

People living in Kingston’s east end will be getting a major upgrade to their retail experience by the end of next summer.  Plans for the Riverview Shopping Centre off Highway 15 were released yesterday by Taggart Realty.  The plans name the stores to be located in the shopping centre and they include a Food Basics, Pet Value, St. Louis Wings and Starbucks.

Elliott Retires

Hall of Fame baseball writer and Kingston native Bob Elliott has retired after 50 years as one of Canada’s most respected sportswriters.  Blue Jays manager John Gibbons paid tribute to Elliott following the Jays game on Tuesday night.  His departure was the front page news on the Toronto Sun sports section yesterday.  Elliott started his sports writing career in 1966 in Kingston…he covered the Montreal Expos for the Ottawa Citizen and moved to the Toronto Sun in 1987.

Tomlinson Aqua Park

The pool and splash pad at the Memorial Centre will open on weekends starting this Saturday.

The city has announced Tomlinson Aqua Park will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., subject to weather conditions.  The city says it will post updates on Twitter and Facebook if there are poor weather conditions.

Extended hours of operation will begin at the end of the month.

KPASS

A unique pass to Kingston attractions has been announced by Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises and Trolleys.
