Commuter Challenge

Kingston is hoping to continue its record of being first in the national Commuter Challenge.

The challenge encourages people to walk, take the bus, cycle, car pool or work from home instead of driving to work.

You can register at commuterchallenge.ca and will be eligible to win prizes.

The city says 65% of people in Kingston drive to work alone and 46% of adults in the KFL&A region are considered to be inactive.

There was a roll in breakfast for cyclists this morning at the KFL&A Public Health office on Portsmouth Avenue and the official kickoff takes place starting at 4:30 this afternoon at the amphitheater in Springer Market Square.

Kingston Pen – Tickets and Consultation

Tickets go on sale today for tours of the notorious Kingston Penitentiary.   The St. Lawrence Parks Commission says the tours will show people what life was like in the prison, while also highlighting its history and architecture.  The 90 minute tours will cost 25 dollars and will run Tuesday to Sunday starting June 16th.  The money raised will be used to support Kingston tourism and youth programs.  Tuesdays will be for locals at a reduced ticket price of $20.

Consultants will hold information sessions and starting this week they have also set aside three days to do individual 20 minute interviews with people who have ideas for that area of Kingston’s waterfront.
