Alexander Henry

The Alexander Henry is leaving Kingston today for its temporary home in Picton.

The former Coast Guard ice breaker was towed out of the dry dock next to the Marine Museum yesterday afternoon.  Doornekamp construction has arranged to have it towed the Picton terminal it owns at a cost of $100,000.  It will stay there while officials investigate whether it can be sunk as an artificial dive reef.  If not…it will be scrapped.

She ship had to be moved after the Marine Museum failed to negotiate an agreement with the new owner of the property to stay at its current location.  Kingston City Council has agreed to have the museum housed at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour Site.

Council – KEDCO

Mayor Bryan Paterson is hoping changes to the Kingston Economic Development Corporation will take place quickly…but admits it may be up to a year before everything is in place.

City council met Wednesday night and voted 10-2 in favour of the recommendations made by the KEDCO Review Committee.

Tourism and economic development will become two separate agencies and city council will get a report back from staff on developing a service level agreement with the agencies.

Child Pornography – Kingston

A 47 year old Kingston man has a bail hearing today after being arrest on child pornography charges.

A report from the U-S-based Centre for Missing and Exploited Children indicated a person using a specific nickname had uploaded a digital image file that appeared to contain child pornography.   Kingston police say electronic devices and media were seized in a search early yesterday morning at a west end home.

The man faces two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of making available child pornography.

Domestic Violence – Arrest

A 24-year-old Kingston man faces charges after his former domestic partner was called hundreds of times and sent disturbing and threatening text messages to her. Police say the couple had broken up last year…but the woman started getting calls and text message on Wednesday of this week that contained threatening language.

The man was arrested Wednesday night and has been charged with criminal harassment.

Bear Spray Attack

A 41 year old Kingston man is facing numerous charges after his ex-girlfriend and two others were pepper sprayed.

It happened early Thursday morning at an apartment where the woman went to seek refuge after a heated argument with her ex-boyfriend.  Investigators say the ex-boyfriend also hit the woman and choked her into unconsciousness on Monday.

The 41-year-old man has been charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon, and one count each of break and enter, assault, forcible confinement and choking.

Police seized a canister of bear spray, a collapsible baton and a metal bar.

HMCS Kingston

Kingston’s namesake naval ship will be docked in the Limestone City this weekend.

HMCS Kingston is scheduled to arrive at the Crawford Wharf around 9 this morning.

The ship is taking part in a two-week tour of Canadian cities on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway.
