Drowning – Pittsburgh Quarry

The Coroner’s office is investigating the drowning death of a 24 year old Kingston man in the Pittsburgh Quarry.

The body of Tylor Salter was recovered from the quarry on Highway 15 yesterday afternoon by the OPP dive team.  Salter had been swimming with his girlfriend on Sunday afternoon when he went under water and failed to surface.

The quarry is fenced off and has no trespassing signs posted but it has been a popular swimming spot – especially this summer.

Missing Woman

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Susan Parkinson is being asked to contact Napanee OPP.

The Royal Military College of Canada is investigating the sudden deaths of four students who attended the school last year.  A Board of Inquiry has been established to investigate the deaths of two officer cadets at the college last spring and another who took his life while on a training course at CFB Borden.

A separate inquiry is being held into the death of a 19 year old officer cadet who was being released from the military earlier this month.

RMC says it also plans to introduce a resilience training program for students, to help them deal with stress and adversity.

Capitol Condo

A report for the city’s planning committee is recommending approval of the 15 storey Capitol condominium project.  The planning committee is expected to decide on the proposal from IN8 Developments of Waterloo when it meets on Thursday.  The report from the city’s planning staff says it fits municipal heritage and design requirements.  It also says the high rise condo will not have any impact on Kingston City Hall being the dominant feature of Kingston’s skyline.

Traffic Note

A traffic note for anyone who uses the 401 westbound for their commute.  It’s down to one lane at the bridge at Camden East – just before the On Route from 7am to 5pm again today and tomorrow.

Anyone who got stuck in that mess yesterday afternoon will want to avoid it…if possible.
