Take Back the Night

It was an emotional night for a lot of people in Kingston.

Over two hundred gathered in Confederation Park for the annual Take Back the Night Rally and March.  They listened to speeches from survivors and activists and then marched through the downtown.

The message of the night was clear – stop sexual assault, gender-based violence and abuse.

City Councillor – School Development

A Kingston city councillor wants details of the city’s deal to buy St. Joseph-St. Mary School released to the public.  City councillor Jim Neill says he wants the public to know why city staff recommended the purchase.

The city doesn’t have to release the information – but Neill says people deserve to know if selling part of the property for a profit was part of the reason the deal was done.

He’s received complaints about the amount of parkland that will be available.

An open house on the future of the school site takes place October 3rd at St. Lukes Church.

Kiwala – Bot Bill

Kingston and the Islands MPP Sophie Kiwala is going to introduce a private members bill at the Ontario legislature next week to try and outlaw the use of Bots to buy tickets online.

Kiwala says it is a direct result of complaints from people who couldn’t get tickets for The Tragically Hip’s summer tour.

She says the bill would outlaw the use of software to make mass online ticket purchases and require the original price to be displayed on any tickets that are resold.

Impaired – No Pants

Kingston Police say a driver stopped for rolling through a stop light at Princess and Victoria Streets at 2am on Wednesday wasn’t wearing any pants.  The car went right by a marked police cruiser…sped up but the guy was caught with his pants down when the black Mercedes had to stop for an apartment building garage door to open.  Police grabbed the driver and found he was wearing only underwear and a Toronto Blue Jays jersey.  The 20 year old from Mississauga has been charged with impaired driving, failing to stop at a red light and failing to provide the proper information to police.
