Holidays to affect City services schedule

A reminder to Kingston residents regarding holiday services!

For your green bin, garbage and recycling schedule please put your collectibles out the day after your normal pick-up day for the remainder of this week and next week.

Your household can put out two untagged bags or cans of garbage for your first collection day after New Year’s Day (the two-bag collection days are Jan. 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7).

Kingston transit is running regular service excluding New Year’s Day, when it will not be running.

Many of the administration offices are running on holiday schedules which can be found on the cities website CityofKingston.ca

Kingston Apartment Fire – Update

An update to last week’s apartment fire in Grenville Park.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the blaze that killed a 53-year-old man.
Police say smoke was noticed coming from a fourth-floor apartment on Thursday evening and the man — who was the sole tenant — was later found inside.
They say the fire was limited to the one apartment with some additional smoke damage to a hallway.

Police say there’s no indication of foul-play at this point.

Harrowsmith Fire – Christmas Eve

The community came together with Christmas Spirit for a family who had fallen victim to a house fire on Christmas eve in Harrowsith!

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve a structure fire was reported at a William Street home, with South Frontenac Fire and Rescue quickly responding.

Luckily the Davidson-Kendal family and their four girls, were not home at the time of the fire. However the family dog was, but a heroic neighbour made sure to save the pet. The presents in the garage did not see the same fate, as the structure was completely destroyed.

Word of the family’s situation spread quickly throughout the community and resulted in massive support, with people replacing gifts for the little girls to be able to open on Christmas morning.

It’s being reported that, Wal-Mart stores in Kingston and Napanee and the Giant Tiger in Napanee stayed open past closing to allow customers to get the family gifts and essential items.
