Priest – Guilty

A priest serving three years in prison for sexually assaulting a boy in Kingston in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s has been sentenced for molesting an even younger boy.

69 year old Robin Quinton Gwyn pleaded guilty last October to sexually assaulting a boy who was about eight year old boy between 2000 and 2002.

Gwyn was sentenced this week and escaped a possible 10 year prison term because the prosecution said it would be difficult to prove the facts in the case.  Instead Gwyn received a concurrent sentence – which means he won’t spend more time behind bars than what he received for his original three year sentence.

Artist – Tragically Hip Paintings

A Kingston artist has been told he can no longer paint or sell pictures of The Tragically Hip.

Shane Goudreau says he received a call from The Hip’s manager, Bernie Breen, on Monday informing him he to stop selling pictures of the band and band members.

It comes down to the fact the band…and for that matter…anyone owns rights to their images and can protect them.

Goudreau had not received permission from the band members to paint or sell the pictures.

He’ll be selling the final pictures and t-shirts he’s produced at the Taylor Hall Ball Hockey tournament tomorrow and says he will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club.

Taylor Hall – Ball Hockey

The 4th annual Taylor Hall Charity Ball Hockey tournament takes place tomorrow in the Metro Parking Lot at Princess and Barrie Streets.

The money raised by the tournament goes to the Boys and Girls Club.

The Hip – Pot Company

The marijuana company that has been endorsed by The Tragically Hip has announced its Advisory Board and the band’s manager is one of the advisors.

Bernie Breen has been named to the Advisory Board of Newstrike.

The company says Breen and the other advisory board members will be instrumental in helping it launch marijuana brands that become recognized leaders in Canada and around the world.

Warning – FedEx Man

It sounds like a scam and Kingston Police are warning people about a man who went to at least two homes yesterday asking if people had received a package from FedEx.  Both homes had actually received a package containing an American Express Card they hadn’t ordered.

The man claimed the package had been delivered in error.  Kingston Police want to hear from anyone who has had a similar delivery or visit from a man asking about a delivery.

Fort Frontenac – Today in History

From Tony’s Today in History file….the French set up their military post in Kingston over 300 years ago.

It was on this day…July 28th 1673 that Fort Frontenac was completed. Governor Louis Frontenac raised the fleur-de-lis of France over his namesake.

It was built where Kingston now stands so natives wouldn’t have to travel to Montreal to trade with the French.
