Kids for Kids

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was one of the estimated 10 thousand people attracted to Kingston on the weekend because of the Kids for Kids hockey tournament.

His son was playing in the tournament and Trudeau was seen around Kingston including at the helm of the Wolfe Island Ferry and at the Grizzly Grill.

Tourism Kingston estimates the economic benefit generated by the 21st annual tournament at around 2 million dollars.

The Boys and Girls Club and the neonatal intensive care unit at Kingston General Hospital also benefited from the tournament.  Each received a donations of 25 thousand dollars.

One of the tournament founders…Garry McColman has been selected by the Rotary Club of Kingston for a Paul Harris Fellowship…the highest honour the Rotary club can bestow on an individual.

Downie – Glorious Sons – Juno

Gord Downie has won the Artist of the Year Award at the Junos.  Downie also won for adult alternative album of the year…Introduce Yerself and was named songwriter of the year with Kevin Drew.

A tribute to Downie, who died in October, was part of the Juno awards show last night.

Kingston’s The Glorious Sons won the Juno award for best rock album.

Sunshine List

The sunshine list that highlights government employees who earn more than $100,000 a year shows the CEO of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Dr. David Pichora, is the highest paid in Kingston at just over 715,000 last year.  Queen’s Principal Daniel Woolf is second at $360,000.  St. Lawrence College President and CEO Glen Vollebregt made 268,000.

The City of Kingston’s Chief Administrative Officer, Gerard Hunt, earned just over $233,000.

Arson – School Bus

A school bus parked at Fairfield Elementary School in Amherstview has been destroyed by a deliberately started fire.

The OPP says it is a case of arson after the bus was gutted by the fire Saturday night.  Witnesses say three young people were seen leaving the area just before the bus erupted in flames.
