Kingston – Power Outages

Utilities Kingston hasn’t said if two widespread power failures in the city were caused by damage from a powerful thunderstorm.

Power was off in Central Kingston for about an hour and a half last night.

Another outage hit Central Kingston at 5:00 this morning.  Up to 2,500 customers were affected.  Utilities Kingston says the power was restored at 6:23 this morning.

Kingston – Storm

Trees and tree branches came down as strong winds, rain and hail whipped through the Kingston area during that brief but powerful thunderstorm.

The heavy rainfall from the storm caused sewage overflows at two locations along the Cataraqui River and two locations on Lake Ontario.

KFL&A Public Health says bacteria levels are higher in areas of the overflows after a heavy rainfall and swimming is not recommended for 48 hours.
