ATV Deaths and Crashes

A 66-year-old man from Seeley’s Bay has died in an ATV rollover.

Michael Berry was pronounced dead at the scene of the rollover in a wooded area off Back Street – west of Highway 15 around 8:30 on Friday night.

 

It was one of at least five ATV crashes in the area on the weekend.

 

A 56-year-old man from North Dundas Township died when his ATV left a trail and went over a steep embankment on Friday north of Plevna.

 

Prince Edward County OPP say the driver of an ATV suffered critical injuries in a crash on the Millennium Trail in Hallowell Ward late Saturday afternoon.  Two other people on the ATV were not injured.

 

Lennox and Addington County OPP investigated two ATV crashes – one resulting in serious injuries to a male driver who was airlifted to Kingston General Hospital.  The other resulted in charges of careless driving for a 22-year-old man from Port Hope. All in the Family

Six people are facing several charges after a weekend break-in in Parham…four of them are from the same family.

Frontenac OPP say the break-in at a residence in Parham on Saturday involved violence and the six men face charges including assault with a weapon.

51-year-old Allan Towers, 50-year-old Carl Towers, 24-year-old Nicholas Towers and 23-year-old Luke Towers of Central Frontenac were arrested along with 20-year-old Noah Post of Central Frontenac and 23-year-old Brandon Alport of Kingston.

 

Charges – Stolen Boat

A 34-year-old man from Kingston is facing charges after a vehicle and boat were stolen at Charleston Lake Provincial Park.

Leeds OPP were called about the incident on the morning of August 11th.

Nicholas Tuttle is facing charges including theft, mischief and possession of property obtained by crime.

 

Attempted Robbery

A scary incident for a woman on a bicycle in Kingston.

Police say the woman was riding her bike through Skeleton Park on her way home around 11:30 on Friday night when a trio of men approached her and asked her if she had anything to give them.  She rode off…but they followed her and eventually bumped her off her bike and onto the ground at the intersection of Patrick Street and Russell street, where they attempted to take her wallet. She said she had a knife and the men left.

She encountered the group again on Montreal Street, and called the police, scaring the men off again.

The woman wasn’t injured and avoided being robbed.

 

Roofing Fraud

Prince Edward County OPP have now charged a 37-year-old man with 10 additional charges as they continue to investigate a roofing scam in the County.

Michael Crandall of Consecon was charged in July with two counts of fraud over $5,000.

On Friday he was hit with the additional charges of fraud and theft.

Police say multiple victims have lost approximately $29,700 and are asking for any other victims to come forward.

 

Short Term Rental

Kingston is trying to tackle problems involving short term rentals.

Manager of licensing and enforcement Lacricia Turner says the popularity of Airbnb and other online services have had an impact on the availability of long-term rental units in Kingston and on neighborhoods.

An open house on the city’s plans to regulate short term rentals is taking place tonight starting at 6:30 in Memorial Hall at Kingston City Hall.

Utilities Kingston – Survey

Utilities Kingston says if you get a call asking you to participate in a survey about electrical services the call is legitimate.

Utilities Kingston has contracted an opinion research firm called to call 400 of its 28,000 customers in central Kingston.

The surveys will take less than 15 minutes, and customers will not be asked for account, financial, or personal information.
