Graveside Service

A graveside ceremony is being held today for the man who died when his was hit by a vehicle near the entrance to the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority in August.

Charles Vautrin died when he was hit be a vehicle while riding his bicycle to work at Amey’s Greenwood Taxi early in the morning on August 16th.  A teenage girl was arrested at the scene but police have not said if she faces any charges.

The city is holding the graveside service for Vautrin at the Cataraqui Cemetery this afternoon at 3pm.

 

Missing Woman Found

Kingston Police say an 18-year-old who had been missing has been found and is safe and sound.

They had asked for help in locating Neebin-Rayne Hunter yesterday after she hadn’t been seen by family since Saturday morning.

Police say she was found yesterday.

 

Fire – Rideau Street

Kingston Police and Kingston Fire and Rescue are investigating the cause of a fire at 277 Rideau Street that extensively damaged two townhouses.  Anyone with information that may help the investigation is being asked to contact Kingston Police.

The townhouse at 277 Rideau was gutted by the fire Sunday night and the adjoining townhouse at 275 Rideau was also damaged

Firefighters had to rescue a man from the back roof of the home.  Two people were taken to hospital for treatment.

In September…Kingston Police executed a search warrant at 277 Rideau Street and charged a man with drug and weapons offences.

 

Scammers – Spoof Calls

Kingston Police are investigating multiple reports of citizens being tricked into sending money to scammers.

Please spread the word because despite numerous warnings for the past few years people are still getting ripped off by scammer threatening to have them arrested if they don’t send them gift cards or bitcoin for the payment of income tax.

And…this isn’t new either. They use technology to make it look like the calls are coming from the police.

Police say, hang up if you get these calls. Tell other people to do the same.  Police say they would never threaten you about unpaid income taxes over the phone or demand payments.

 

Sentencing – Child Pornography

A young Kingston lawyer will be spending time behind bars for possessing and accessing child pornography.

29-year-old Robert Gencarelli has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Police found thousands of child pornography images on devices in his apartment when they executed a search warrant in February of this year.

Gencarelli told the court he was deeply ashamed of his actions and promised to redeem himself.

 

Military Training – Picton

The Canadian Armed Forces is advising residents in the vicinity of Picton that personnel from CFB Petawawa will be conducting training in the area today and tomorrow.

Lieutenant Anne Côté from the Canadian Special Operations Regiment says residents may notice military aircraft and vehicles, uniformed personnel with weapons, and hear noises associated with explosives and weapons.

She says all efforts will be made to ensure that disruption to the community will be at a minimum.

 

Fighting Anti-Vaxxers

The President of the Ontario Medical Association will bring the organizations campaign to fight anti-vaccine myths to Kingston today.

Dr. Sohail Gandhi will be speaking about vaccine hesitancy, and the Ontario Medical Association’s public education campaign to promote vaccinations.

He will be joined at the session in Kingston this morning by officials from both KFL&A Public Health and Hastings and Price Edward Public Health.

They’ll be discussing current vaccinations rates in the region.
