401 Collisions

The 401 E/B saw significant delays this morning from Highway 32 in Gananoque through to Mallorytown.

Overnight, a collision happened resulting in a tractor trailer blocking the lanes.

A second collision was also reported near Landsdowne, also on the E/B 401


Police Warning the Public

The Kingston Police are looking for a suspect after a violent incident yesterday.

57 year old Arnold John Hudson allegedly entered a home near Wilson Street and Weller avenue.

He attacked the man and woman inside with a knife.

Both suffered minor, not life threatening injuries.

Hudson knew both victims, and the attack was not random, but police are warning the public not approach him.

UPDATE: Police reported around 8:45am that Hudson is in custody.

 

Boxing Day Impaired Driver

A 35 year old BC man is facing impaired driving charges here in Kingston after an incident on boxing day.

Around 8pm, police allegedly began receiving calls about a driver who was hitting curbs, swerving, and running at least one red light.

He allegedly also began travelling southbound in the northbound lanes of Gardiner’s Road.

He then began travelling along Princess, narrowly avoiding a collision after driving into the oncoming lanes of traffic again.

With the help of witnesses who gave ongoing information, the accused was located driving eastbound on John Counter Boulevard in the westbound lanes, and promptly taken into custody.

 

Queen’s Professor OC

The newest appointees to the Order of Canada were named yesterday, including a Queen’s University Professor.

Heather Stuart is a professor of public health, and is receiving the honour for her “commitment to advancing the mental health conversation in Canada”

The new inductees include two Companions of the Order, 15 officers and 86 new Members. There are now close to 7,000 members of the Order.

 

NYE at City Hall

Preparations are underway downtown to welcome everyone on Monday for New Years Eve.

The annual K-Town Countdown will be taking place at the Leon’s Centre, with fun and games for the whole family.

It will be followed by a fireworks display at Confederation Basin to ring in 2019

The New Years Levee will then be held on New Years Day, giving Kingstonians a chance to celebrate with elected officials.
